Shift length, billable hours, how long the drive was. Ends past midnight? Handled. Unpaid break? Subtracted.
It’s treated as an overnight span — 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours, not −16. A note under the result tells you when this rule kicked in, so a typo can’t silently become a night shift.
Payroll systems usually want 7 hours 45 minutes written as 7.75 — minutes divided by 60, not moved after a decimal point. 7.45 would be a different (wrong) number of hours; the decimal line here does the division for you.
